A Modification of Punchscan: Trust Distribution

چکیده

In IAVoSSWorkshop On Trustworthy Elections (WOTE 2006) two papers depicted “Punchscan”, a hybrid paper-electronic voting protocol invented by David Chaum. The scheme is verifiable and effective, but it is managed by a single Election Authority, which must be trusted with voters’ privacy: the Election Authority holds secret information that allows to link a vote from the final bulletin board with ballot’s serial number. In this paper we propose a modification of the scheme in which collusion of different authorities is necessary to make a link between a vote and a ballot.

Punchscan with Independent Ballot Sheets: Simplifying Ballot Printing and Distribution with Independently Selected Ballot Halves

We propose and implement a modification to the Punchscan protocol that simplifies ballot printing and distribution. In this improved version, each voter creates a ballot at the polling location by combining independently selected ballot halves, rather than using two pre-selected halves with the same serial number. The only time a ballot used for voting is human-readable is when it is in the vot...

Punchscan: Introduction and System Definition of a High-Integrity Election System

Punchscan is a unique hybrid paper/electronic voting system concept. As a receipt-based system, Punchscan provides high voter privacy and election integrity, yet it does not rely on the complex and fragile electronic voting machines found in many current implementations. In this paper, we define the Punchscan system and voting protocol, including the people, objects and events involved and the ...

Voting with Unconditional Privacy by Merging Prêt-à-Voter and PunchScan

We present a detailed comparison of the Prêt-àVoter and Punchscan protocols for booth voting. We also describe a simpler variation that keeps the ballot layout of Prêt-àVoter but borrows the cryptography from Punchscan, which is based on any commitment scheme. By using unconditionally hiding commitments we obtain a conceptually very simple voting protocol with unconditional privacy.

An Introduction to PunchScan

Punchscan is a precinct-read optical-scan balloting system that allows voters to take their ballot with them after scanning. This does not violate the secret ballot principle because the ballots cannot be read without secret information held by the authority in charge of the election. In fact, this election authority will publish the ballots for everyone to see, allowing voters whose ballots we...

Tear and Destroy: Chain voting and destruction problems shared by Prêt à Voter and Punchscan and a solution using Visual Encryption

Prêt à Voter and Punchscan are two electronic voting schemes that both use paper based ballot forms, part of which is detached and destroyed, to provide receipt-free voter verifiability. However, both schemes share the chain voting problem and the part destruction problem. The first is where anyone who can see the ballot form before it is used can coerce a voter who uses it and the latter where...
